A 24-year-old local farmer was charged in the sessions court
here Monday with attempting to abort the woman’s baby.
Robert Gani, however, pleaded not guilty before High Court
Deputy Registrar Noor Hafizah Mohd Salim, who sat as a sessions court judge, to
all the offences against him.
On the first count, Gani is accused of trying to rape the
21-year-old woman who was seven month pregnant at 9pm on May inside a car by
the roadside in a Sipitang Village.
He could be punished with a jail term of between five years
and 30 years, and whipping, if found guilty.
On the second count, he allegedly inserted his finger in the
womans’s private part at the same place and time and on the third count. He is
accused of threatening to abort the woman’s baby at the same place and time.
The court fixed july-23-24 to hear all the cases and
released Gani on a bail of RM7500 in two local sureties.
